Assalam aluykum waramatulahi wabarakatuhu

I hope that the children have experienced a smooth transition from year one to year two. The year two curriculum builds upon and extends the experiences that children have had in year one.

Your child will be given a reading book and a reading diary to bring home and read every week. Please ensure their reading diary has a comment about how they found their book. The children will also have lots of opportunities to read and enjoy books throughout the week at school. Here are a few simple tips to follow when your child brings home a book to read to you;

•    Look through the book and talk about the pictures
•    Read the first few pages to your child
•    Then let your child read on their own
•    If your child can’t read a word, give them a few seconds to work it out. Working out how to solve tricky words is very good reading pratice
•    If your child works out the word, praise their success
•    If your child cant work out the word, praise them for trying
•    Tell them the word and ask them to repeat it
•    When your child has finished reading, talk about the book together

Homework is a useful opportunity for children to practise what they have been learning at school. You can really make a difference by supervising homework and supporting your child when necessary. Below are tips on how you can help your child:

•    Choose a time for homework that suits you and your child
•    Make sure you know what homework your chil has been asked to do
•    Make sure your child know how to do it
•    Make sure your child has paper, pencil, Pen, rubber etc.
•    Try to ensure your chil will not ebe disturbed by other members of the family
•    Don’t do the homework for your child but do give suggestions and support
•    Praise your childs efforts
•    Make sure the homework isnt left until the last minute to complete
•    If you are worried, contact the school and explain the problem

Every Monday two children will be chosen to be our helpers of the week. They will be responsible for helping with jobs in the classroom throughout the week including taking the register, handing out books and so on. Mondays will be when we share our weekend news with the class and Fridays is when the children can bring in one object something for show and tell.

Towards the end of the year, your child will be taking part in the end of key stage 1 assessment. Children will be assessed on reading, writing, speaking and listening, numeracy and science. The emphasis is now on teacher judgement so your child will also be assessed throughout the year and these test are used to inform the final teacher judgement.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or queries.
