Year 3 DT - Sandwiches

E-mail Tuesday, 03 April 2012 04:52
Today Year 3 made sandwiches. They wrote the recipe before hand with a list of ingredients and a list of equipment to prepare their sandwiches.  They were than given an opportunity to collect their ingredients from the ‘Food Table’ and began to prepare their sandwiches.  The children enjoyed making their sandwiches and also loved how their sandwiches tasted. Once the sandwiches were made and eaten, the children than wrote how they made the sandwiches, how they felt while making the sandwiches and what they did and didn’t enjoy.

Year 3 and Report Writing

E-mail Tuesday, 03 April 2012 04:46
Today the learning objective for our Literacy lesson was to write a report and gather information from different resources. The resources we have  used in past are ICT and information books. Today we tried the new resource ‘newspaper’ to write a report. The newspaper article we chose was titled “Swift Mercury gives up its secrets” which is an article written about the satellite Messenger which orbits Mercury. Some of the information the children found out was; what the surface of Mercury consisted of, how many pictures satellites have taken of Mercury and why it was named Mercury. Year 3 used this information to create a report and marked their partners work according to the given success criteria.

Hajj_624x176

This major exhibition charts the history of the Hajj. The children got to learn about the extraordinary travel logistics involved and how the wider operation of the event has changed over time. The exhibition compares how pilgrims over the centuries negotiated this often monumental undertaking and how it continues to be experienced by people from all corners of the globe today.

Year 6 Visitors

E-mail Friday, 09 March 2012 19:37
Year 6 had a special visit from Mr Abbas on Monday 5th March. As part of Maths Week, Mr Abbas came in to talk to the children about the use of maths in every day life. The children had a really good sessions looking at how maths is used in construction.

They had a go and filling in a timesheet and then working out how much they should get paid after taxes (we did say real world!). Then, they also had to work out a budget for decorating the school classroom.  Unfortunately, as is the way with some builders, we had some who tried to overcharge us and one who was suspiciously cheap! Shabazz and Anam came up with the winning bids. Well done guys!

Year 4 Art

E-mail Monday, 05 March 2012 20:22

Our Art project this term has been ‘Chairs’. We have been looking closely at chairs from the past to the present day, and have been thinking about the purpose of chairs in our lives.

In order to make our model chairs, we had to first sketch our designs and think carefully about how we would construct our chairs and the materials we might need.

Year 3 Numeracy - Tetrominoid shapes

E-mail Thursday, 26 January 2012 12:50
MashaAllaah!  Year 3 have been learning how to build tetrominoid shapes .A tetromino is a geometric shape composed of four squares.

The enjoyed doing the practical activity and were able to create various shapes using just four interlocking blocks. They were able to meet their lesson objective of relating solid shapes to pictures of them.  Alhamdulillah!  They worked really well and were also able to do some extension work of building more of their own shapes using more than four blocks!
